Puppy Grooming Tips For Your Petite Puppy

When it comes to taking care of your new puppy, grooming them is extremely important. This is especially true for the petite dog breeds such as Shih Tzu, Malti-Poo, Yorkie-Poo, Maltese, Shihtese, etc. One of the most important things that can be done is to teach your puppy to love being groomed. After all, if you wait until they're an adult to start grooming, the chances are high that they'll absolutely hate it! So, make sure to get your puppy accustomed to being groomed from a young age and they will grow to love it as they become older.

Next, it is important to know your particular puppy's coat. For example, Shih Tzus have very beautiful long coats and you will need to adapt your grooming to their specific coat type. In this particular example, the type of shampoos that are used for Shih Tzu's coats tend to actually dry out their skin. So, you should always use a moisturizer to help put back the moisture and ensure their skin stays healthy. Of course, you should only use shampoos that are designed for dogs and never use any human shampoos since they both have different pH levels.

In addition to grooming your puppy's coat, you also need to check their nails and trim them regularly. This is especially true for breeds that have long fur which essentially hides the nails. Overgrown nails severely impact the dog and will prevent them from walking comfortably. Smaller breeds also require hair trimming between their toe pads on the underside of their feet. This is because these areas are prone to irritation and the overgrown hair also prevents them from getting traction when walking on slippery surfaces, tiles etc.

Lastly, our final grooming tip is to always wipe the eyes of your puppy on a daily basis. This can be done using a clean washcloth or even a moist cotton ball. Be sure to always wipe under and around the eye where stains tend to occur.

To wrap things up, these are just a few puppy grooming tips to keep your pup in tip top shape. If you don't have the time to groom your puppy yourself, be sure to check out our puppy grooming services where we'll be happy to take care of your beloved pet.
